Welcome back to the Football Masters Series. Where whims become wins and guesses become successes. Now proving even more tortuously long than ‘five’ minutes of European final injury time.

We’re down to the final game of our multi-faceted end of season finale. And… well, let’s be honest, it’s much like this fork:

It’s just not right, is it?
There are too many prongs to this multi-pronged hydra! It’s unsettling, it’s chaos, and it’s bewilderingly hard to follow. Lesson learned for the non-test season, I’ll keep this final simpler. But as it stands, we have one game left to go and we have the following state of affairs:

Now, a few things to add here. Deb Lasso are looking good, yes. But the others are all waiting on a (surely inevitable) three points from Man City spanking Inter in the Champions League. Add that into the mix and things suddenly look a lot closer all round. From there, there are more combinations than the Sugababes, more potential outs than a Eurovision aftershow party. So I won’t pretend there’s a clear favourite at this point; it’s fresh chaos and any one of these intrepid warriors could lift the mug of glory in a few days time. Obviously I shall keep you posted as and when that happens, in any case!

Separately, we had the delights of our first-and-last tournament of the season proper coming to an end, Freeze: Premier League. And some shocks, no less!

Because yes, we did all get our asses handed to us by two primary school kids. Glory to Harris Rovers and Calvin United (both managers under 10) as the rest of us ponder quite why we thought Bournemouth and European heavyweights West Ham were so bad.
But! But…. it’s the impact on the world rankings that matters the most. Because look at that team in second last – why it’s our erstwhile world number 1s, Absolutely Fabregas. And look at that team in third.. by a solitary position, it’s our NEW world number 1s, the Pistols! They needed to be eight positions ahead to take top spot, and 11th minus 3rd is… well, in this case, it equals season-ending world number 1.

Glorious stuff and a thorough reward for a very consistent season. But we all know there’s one more big reward those two teams are fighting for, and it all comes to an end with the Champions League final this weekend. I’ll be back with an update after then but for now, enjoy it one and all!
